GRAHAM Construction has completed work on the state-of-the-art 10-bed Critical Care Unit (CCU) at Monklands Hospital in Airdrie and handed it over to NHS Lanarkshire.

Completion of the £5.5 million unit is just one of 12 phased work projects that GRAHAM Construction will complete by Spring 2018 as part of an overall £19 million refurbishment of the hospital.

Linked to the hospital’s current operating theatres, the CCU is part of a refurbishment and upgrade programme that will see the seven existing operating theatres at the hospital undergo extensive refurbishment with a purpose-built recovery area created.

Gary Holmes, GRAHAM Construction’s regional director, said:

“The Monkland’s CCU is the latest phase of the refurbishment of the hospital delivered by GRAHAM Construction. It will provide advanced care to patients from the region who will benefit from specialist operating theatres and a bespoke recovery area. Throughout the project we ensured local people had full access to the centre which was a tremendous accomplishment on behalf of the community. GRAHAM has an extensive portfolio of experience in developments for the health sector and looks forward to a continuing relationship with NHS Lanarkshire.”

While delivering the successful construction project, GRAHAM also contributed to skills and employment in the wider community with the company creating 25 jobs in partnership with North Lanarkshire Working. It also facilitated a number of apprenticeships in plumbing, electrical and joinery for local young people. In addition, it sponsored a pre-apprenticeship course in New College Lanarkshire, offering five-week placements for students and supported local charity, Hope with Autism, providing joinery and material work to the value of around £2,000.
