Project: Migdale Hospital, Bonar Bridge, Sutherland
Client: NHS Highland
PSCP: Robertson Dawn Health
Value: £8m
Delivery Model: Frameworks Scotland
Completion Date: June 2011

Robertson Dawn Health, one of five Principal Supply Chain Partners under Frameworks Scotland was appointed to work with NHS Highland on the replacement of the existing 150 year old Migdale Hospital, which no longer met current NHS requirements. The new £8m hospital delivered a modern hospital environment where current clinical best practice is the starting point for continuous improvement and where patients are cared for in clean, safe, high quality surroundings that make best use of the site location.

The new building provides 22 inpatient bed spaces (Old Age Psychiatry, GP and flexible use), dining spaces and a range of day / outpatient consultation and therapy facilities. The design evolved from a close consultation process involving all stakeholders to produce a contemporary new hospital which maximises spectacular views of the Kyle of Sutherland to the South West; creates an ‘open living’ environment with contemplative day facilities to the rear of the site; developed a building section to suit sloping site topology; maintains flexibility for potential future extensions; and provides a sustainable approach to building design.
