From a journey that began on 5th December 2017 with a presentation to NHS Tayside & Health Facilities Scotland, a number of major milestones have been achieved. Never to be daunted, the Ninewells Hospital team have taken all of these in their stride. It’s not every day that you remove the roof from a live hospital, close the main Theatre Suite facility for essential works, (then re-open them “to the hour” for surgery to resume following a six week period), sandwich the same Main Theatre Suite with two of your projects whist all the while keeping surgical teams happy. Nor install 12,000 meters of cabling and associated containment while maintaining clinical continuity to the numerous departments involved, ship four 1 Megawatt generators in from Canada, construct a new four storey plant room within a landlocked section of the hospital. All the while prioritising safety onsite with works for over 730 days without a reportable accident, not to mention a large chunk of the works being delivered during the midst of a global pandemic, the list of achievements are endless. The projects continue, with Zone 1 Electrical Infrastructure nearing it’s critical end stage of transferring a 50 year old electrical network to provide resilience for the next 50 years. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, now at its finishing stage in order to provide critical care for fragile infants, and the new Children’s Theatre Suite project working to provide two theatres dedicated to Child Health provision. Balfour Beatty are delighted to be working in partnership with NHS Tayside and look forward to completing the further projects in the pipeline.
